And This is Why I Love My Job

Working from home certainly has it’s perks, one of those is being able to sit down on a Sunday morning with laptop, cup of strong coffee and wearing my pajamas while I work away …

Working from Home

Sure some say I work too much, but the problem with that is that most do not do what they love for work. With that being said, I do not ever feel as if I work a day in my life. My job is something that is truly my passion in life; writing and networking. Those two things combined with social media just make me happy.

With that being said, I do not work too much. I love my job. That is all. I love my kids. That is all. If you can not accept and appreciate that about me, then why are you my friend?

I Decided to Put up Dating Profile

I honesty was not going to put up any dating profiles for many reasons; I am extremely busy, I have tried the dating scene with a total fail and well I am just not 100% sure how to date in the real world. I have always fallen hard and fast for one person, never been good at dating people, getting to know them, basically what I think of as courting. I do not want to latch on to one person just yet, I love the idea of having someone to go out to dinner, movies, events on the weekends my kids are gone but the idea of latching on to a full time commitment, well honestly, I am not so sure I want that.

I obviously have not found the right for me person and I am finally at a point in my life where I am perfectly okay with being home alone. Sleeping in a silent house with no kids and no other adult around works just fine for me. I do not feel that need of having to have someone around, do you know that in my years of having had a boyfriend, I have never felt that okay with living without a partner? I am going to enjoy this feeling and take full advantage of it, but since I do not get out of the house very often, I decided the best way to try to meet new people would be to put up a dating profile.

I started with Plenty of Fish and OH MY GOSH, you can not pay me enough to deal with most of the men on that site. The typical “where are you from” question gets quickly answered with “ummm did you even read my profile”. I have a height limit of being taller than me, and it’s usually a 5’9″ or 5’10″  height limit at minimum for a man I wish to get to know. I get men who are below that height still contacting me, I am just like really? I do not even reply to these messed up messages because I do not have the time for idiots. No offense men, but some of you really need to read because asking such silly questions or contacting a woman who is clearly not interested in some of what you have on your profile makes you look like 1) you are not taking dating seriously and just want to get laid or 2) you are just dumb.

I now know what my best friend in Texas went through when being on dating sites. This is nuts. So I have my profile out there on a couple of dating sites, just to see what I see or who sees me, maybe I will make some new great friends. I am not actively looking for a full time partner, I am simply randomly looking and seeking friendship. If that right person came along obviously I would want them to scoop me right up but for now, I am really, really enjoying being alone. Even if I have lonely moments, this is a great new feeling and I refuse to give up on my new found independent nature for just anyone.

More dating site stories to come … seriously …. you can not pay me enough to deal with some of these messages. Hopefully you find humor in them and enjoy traveling along as I share some of my online dating experiences. One rule I have is not to blog about relationships, so I may not divulge into that part if I were to find someone, but I will have fun venting about these dating site messages I get for now.

Looking for Writing Jobs {old article feature}

Note: this article was written a while ago but I am looking into my files and featuring some old articles I had typed up but never published online .. enjoy!

Back in the day before I started my virtual assistant business and really dove deep into blogging for personal & money making reasons I started looking on Craigslist for jobs. You would be amazed to hear some of the jobs I actually did and some I didn’t do but found. I was making really good money between part time work I found on Craigslist and direct sales from home. I never went door to door nor handled any sales in person. I strictly worked from home without ever having to pick up a telephone, except for maybe the occasional team call for the direct sales down line members of my team.

I am now in a position where I look to my family budget to see that we need a bit more income into the house, already living within our means there is no choice but to find a way to increase income. Most of my virtual assistant work is on a “per project” basis. I love taking on various projects for people, but as it stands right now the projects have been completed and so I have some openings for new clients at Brandy Ellen’s Business Solutions.

I decided to hop on Craigslist in my state of New Hampshire to see what writing gigs may be on there and editing/writing positions are listed in that section too. The problem with most of the writing/editing positions are two things:

  • They want you to write articles on an ad revenue shared website.
  • They want you to write large articles for just pennies on the word.

My time is money and I will tell you that I get quite a good junk of change just for writing on article with 2-3 links within it. I am not about to start getting low balled when my skill is technically there to be offered to someone who will appreciate it!

While I wait to find more clients, as I know they will eventually come based on word of mouth marketing alone, I need to focus on some more writing positions. My ideal work right now would be to take on some business blogs; writing, editing, scheduling blog posts. I would also love to take on someone’s social media accounts just to make sure they have an active timeline while they head off to vacation this Summer or need to outsource that area of their business.

Whatever extra income I find, I know that I will truly be able to bring on something, because I am a firm believer that being positive and thinking that all will work out truly has proved successful to me!

I Am Suppose To Do What?

I work every morning from about 8am until lunch time, from then on I am on, what i like to call “Mama Duty”, where I am not allowed to touch email, blogs, computers, nothing again until the munchkins are asleep. This wasn’t always the rule or the case in my home but ever since I stopped my virtual assistant business and focused on writing things have become more peaceful and fun in the house!

You see, I really only “need” a few hours a week to do all of my writing and in turn make enough money to support the family but getting my words of wisdom to the world are important to me and as with any self employed type of job, you have to take time to market yourself so that you in turn make money.

The four hours a day I spend online sometimes turn into me having 7 tabs open in FireFox with my brain on overdrive. You see, I want to write, stumble posts, digg posts and interact on Twitter as well as Facebook but instead of taking each task as one at a time, I try to do it all at once. Maybe it’s my multi-tasking personality or maybe I have Blog ADD, whatever it is, I can not seem to focus on one task at a time.

Every morning I swear this morning will be different, I will open only two tabs; email and one blog, but it never fails, before I know it I have 7 tabs open and although I get a ton done, I never leave the computer feeling fully “complete” in my tasks.
