Let’s Talk About Common Sense

I walk into the bank and see a sign “please refrain from cell phone use while completing a banking transaction” and my mind instantly goes to laughter, oh actually I laughed out loud. The bank teller looked at me as if I had done lost my mind, but then I explained to her how silly I thought it was that they had to have a sign saying ” no cell phone use while doing a bank transaction” because who in their right mind would be on a cell phone while depositing or taking out money from their account? The idea is just silly to me, yet people do this.

Is our wold so technology advanced that we have thrown all common sense and common courtesy out of the window? Take for instance that person who sued McDonald’s over the hot coffee because it burned them? I mean, seriously people! Coffee is hot, if it were not hot you would bitch because it was cold. Now all coffee cups from your convenience store or Dunkin Donuts have “caution this may be hot” on the outside of the mug. This is another silly idea to me, I always say to the cashier, really the coffee is hot? Oh my gosh, I would have never guessed. Alas, the cashier doesn’t get or like my sense of humor, but it amuses me.

Oh and last but not least, I pull up to get my oil change in a Prompto drive up oil change garage, yes because I like Prompto service and I am reading a sign while waiting in the long line of cars that states “Cell phone use is forbidden when driving into the garage. OSHA” I get it, OSHA is a safety organization for most companies around here, hopefully where you are too, but doesn’t OSHA have more important things to do than have to place a sign up for people’s lack of common sense? I can’t imagine being on my cell; texting or talking, while driving into a garage. I can barely drive into the garage without distractions, never mind holding a cell phone. People, please put the cell phones down when in your vehicle, save us all from your lack of common sense.

What’s That Buzz has a common sense article I think you may enjoy.

What type of things have seen that maybe have been around for a long time or you noticed are new and really make you wonder what is wrong with the world today? Please share …. humor me!

Fictional Writing Practice: Surrounded By Boxes

Boxes surround a mother, a father and three children. All items have been organized in a way that we can now enjoy the extra space we have as a family.  The third night in our new home our son figured out that there is a bathroom upstairs for the kids and this boy is happy to pee very five minutes as a way to procrastinate bedtime. Prior to moving our things into this house we thought about utilizing the extra room off of our master bedroom for one of the boys, however, since neither of them consistently sleeps thru the night time hours we felt it would be silly to separate them.

The man of the house and I now have our own master bedroom, master bathroom {which actually is everyone’s bathroom during daytime hours} and a private office off of the master bedroom. I am so excited that we can fit the man’s corner desk into the office space as well as my desk with extra room to spare for cabinets, printer, and whatever else we decide to place in that office space. There is a door on the office which means if I want to get up and work without the boys seeing that Mama is home, I can simply roll out of bed and go into the office to work … but wait … that would mean no coffee, guess we need a small one cup coffee maker for the office. What is an office without a coffee maker anyways?!

We are happily in our new home, boxes everywhere but our beds, clothing and televisions are all set up along with our Wii. Now once I can get a new darn remote for the Wii I will happily start my exercise routine. I plan to purchase the man and myself our own Wii remotes because AJ has thrown our current remotes so often that they barely work anymore.

Loving the new house, new yard, new space and fresh start for our family! Can’t wait to get completely settled in and unpacked but we took a break on the last night of the man’s vacation to enjoy a movie night together. Our backs hurt and our shoulders are ready to be massaged!

If All Else Fails

I was sitting around this morning, eyes burning, feeling like I was so exhausted I wasn’t going to be able to move, get work done or anything. Not sure what’s up with  me feeling like this more often than not. I am usually pretty smiley and happy. I swear I know why my mind is having a hard time focusing, lack of sleep. My sons have been having a real hard time sleeping again, the youngest appears to be possibly getting sick with a super bad cough that wakes him through out the night and my middle child has always had issues off and on with sleeping, well this past week has been rough for him. Luckily if one wakes up they don’t wake the other up, they share a bedroom, because if I had both boys up mid night all the time I probably would be more exhausted than I feel right now. My eyes felt like they were hardly open so I took a picture and they do look tired, don’t you think?

IMG01065 20100624 1141 300x225 If All Else FailsMy youngest laid down for a nap and my older two wanted to watch a DVD in the bedroom so I thought this would give Mama a chance to recoup. I laid myself down on the couch to curl up and relax my eyes for just a little while when the two munchkins who don’t nap decided they weren’t going to watch a DVD they wanted to go in Mama’s room and play UNO Moo and so that is where I sit writing this blog post for you all. I decided if they were going to be playing games and not relaxing I better make myself another cup of coffee! Sure enough I am back to feeling spunky again … so if all else fails … drink coffee!!!! Cheers …

Love Hate Relationship

Today I am talking about my love hate relationship with coffee. I love my coffee and I drink more than you want to know on a daily basis. I start my day off by hitting that brew button on the new coffee maker I bought because my old one is resting in peace now. I pour a travel mug sized cup of coffee and drink 2-3 of them each morning. I do not eat right away as I am not hungry, it’s my friend coffee that jump-starts me for a productive day of being mom and virtual assistant.

I love hate coffee for a few reasons, for starters if I don’t drink my coffee in the morning I end up with a migraine like you would not believe and the other reason is because well it makes me pee a lot! I haven’t peed this much since I was pregnant! I am guilty of having coffee while pregnant too, I drank coffee with my last two pregnancies, with my first pregnancy I wasn’t a coffee drinker. It is the administrative assistant position I held years back in New London, NH that I blame for my coffee addiction. The high paced, multi-tasking environment required some form of caffeinated beverage to keep you moving forward all day long.

Truth be told, I love coffee it is delicious the only problem is I have way too much sugar in it and must drink french vanilla creamer in it or else I can’t stomach it. Some days I can only handle one cup because it seems to be eating at my stomach or something. I am getting older and the fear of diabetes running in my family scares me but I can’t help but to start my day with this evil beverage.

Some day I hope to get past the coffee addiction but I have yet to find a replacement, I love having a hot cup of tea but it just doesn’t give me my fix or jump-start I need each morning. I don’t get much sleep and I don’t eat much at all. I am raising three kids all age 7 and and under which means Mama needs to run from the second she wakes up. My middle child is a high energized boy who wakes up with loads of energy ready to start his day and Mama can’t slack off for a moment or else the house will be turned upside down. For now I love hate my coffee but it’s staying in my life because it’s the only love hate relationship I can handle!

Are Girls Born With This Skill?

Yes I am talking about DRAMA. I don’t even know if this can be considered  a skill but females have this special, unique quality to them that allows them to create a dramatic situation from anything put in their paths. Everything from a broken nail to an event gone wrong. Females seem to be very emotional and dramatic about all life issues and even about life situations that are positive.

It’s like no matter how hard one tries to please a female they are never happy. Do not get me wrong, I am not a dramatic female myself, except during that time of the month, and so I know there are females out there who are down to Earth and have the ability to step back from a situation and view it for what it is rather than create some dramatic situation from it. The majority of females are not able to just chill, it’s like we are born with a skill to be malicious, catty and dramatic. I fear for my daughter and myself some days because this girl is very dramatic, so dramatic that she has been deemed DQ in our household for Drama Queen. We do not call her that often because obviously it isn’t really nice but there are times I can get away with calling her that and other times she will even call herself DQ to new people and I giggle!

It’s so true though, think about it, we have been born with this skill instilled in our brains to be emotional and dramatic over everything. To think I am here trying to relax and be a postiive person but I am constantly fighting the urge to be dramatic about life. Men have it easy, most of them can take  a situation and let it slide off their shoulders, they don’t get all catty and dramatic, they just knock each other out.

As I watch my daughter interact with older females this year in school I find that she is learning that not all girls are nice and that girls will say and do anything to be the “top girl”. It is so sad to me to watch as my daughter gets put into the middle of these dramatic girl fights, so to speak, and comes home in tears having “the worse day ever”. Of course my daughter thinks just getting one or two questions wrong on a math test make the day “horrible” but reality is she is going to be faced with so many dramatic situations due to females and the skill they were born with … dramatization.

I fear for the world she is about to enter, the lovely grade where girls start showing an interest in boys and start chasing each other on the playground. The days when boys pull your hair because they like you and tease you in a mean way because they want to get your attention. I am not ready to watch the drama begin but after 28 years of being placed in dramatic situations myself, I guess I can handle it. Hang on tight everyone I am entering the dramatic days of a motherhood, I think this will require a lot of coffee and late night girl talks but I am ready … bring it on!
