What a Weekend

Friday was the normal Friday night but come Saturday I slept in past 11am while J got up with the boys. Then we rushed to get ready to go to my cousins wedding reception at my family farm where my father lives. I thought it would be great, get to congratulate the newly weds, see my family I haven’t seen in a long time and get to have a few drinks because J was driving not me. Well the idea of drinks should not have even crossed my mind! Usually I am a beer drinker or Twisted Tea drinker, never much for liquor, however, my sister had brought some Bacardi Rum along with a couple other bottles so I thought why not?! I should have thought more along the lines of “not”.

My sister made me a drink after I asked her to but I requested she make it so I can’t taste the rum, I can handle liquor if I can’t smell it nor taste it. The drink was yummy with V8 Splash and a splash of ginger ale along with one other juice I believe mixed in. It was delicious, yet me not being used to Bacardi Rum it certainly hit me good, so I waited a while before having my sister make me another drink. Just when I felt pretty okay with the rum intake, maybe an hour or so later, I deceded to have my sister make me another drink. That drink turned into another and another, well I was fine running playing with the kids that were there, watching all the next generation cousins playing together, chit chatting with cousins I haven’t seen in years and mingling. I love being social.

Standing up I was fine, but when I sat in the passenger seat of the car to head home with J and the boys I felt dizzy and sick to my stomach. I had my window down all the way home because the cold air was all that was keeping me from throwing up! I ended up getting home and running into the bathroom to throw up and curled up in bed sick as a dog and passed out shortly after. J got the boys ready for bed and since I was sick little A was really worried and snuggled up with me refusing to go this bed. A and I slept in my bed and J ended up on the couch because Baby K wouldn’t go to sleep after such an eventful later than normal evening.

Luckily I learned a lesson, do not drink rum if you are not used to it! I think I will stick to beer or Twisted Tea type drinks from now on if I am ever in a position where I can drink at an event. I don’t drink and drive at all, not even a beer then drive, it’s totally against what I believe in so usually I am not able to have a drink at any family events such as this type of wedding reception I attended.

The end result of the weekend was that I learned to not drink rum in such quantities and I learned that catching up with my father’s side of the family makes for a fun filled night of laughs and love. The family I hadn’t seen in years talked to me as if we saw each other last week, it was nice, fun and I felt so welcomed. I saw how welcomed my sons were and J were as well! Such a great weekend full of fun, love and family times!

Now it’s almost the end of the weekend and we are moving around our kitchen and living room can’t wait to see how this goes … right now I am writing from my laptop on our new sectional sofa because my PC is not even hooked back up yet it’s sitting in pieces on my kitchen table!

By the way, the newly weds were gorgeous! I loved my cousins wedding dress, she looked so pretty in that dress!
